Telecommute With Your Dog Day - Our Version Of Take Your Dog To Work Day

Instead of Take Your Dog To Work Day we are doing a Telecommute With Your Dog Day! I would absolutely love to be able to take one of my dogs to work but unfortunately it isn't really allowed so we decided to join in on the spirit of the day NewfandHound style! We started off the day with a coffee run because who doesn't like coffee first thing to get their day going, and since the shop is within walking distance we couldn't resist. Here is my assistant for the day, Foyle, carrying my bag for me as we head out for a "power meeting", which really means talking to the guys at Catahoulla to decide which roast are we going to pick today.

Back in the office Nooner had a few suggestions for our Pinterest boards because she says I'm a definite candidate for What Not To Wear so I could stand to pin a few more outfits, and that we need more dachshund things in our Gifts For The Dachshund Lover board. I told Nooner that we really shouldn't be wasting time on Pinterest and to let Hazel get to work....after about half an hour of pinning of course! Here's Hazel on the right questioning why I have Foyle's picture up as my wallpaper at work but not her! Busted!

After a few hours Foyle decided that it was time to go on another coffee break, he's a bit of an addict so we're trying to ween him off with half/calf right now. But who can resist coffee from Catahoulla Coffee Co.? I can't! Back at the office we finally finished up a drafting project (after staying up past 1:00 a.m. this morning, thus the need for so much coffee) to make sure we hit our deadline. Hazel decided that my drafting abilities weren't quite up to par according to her standards so she decided to take it upon herself to just terminate my session completely. IT help! A few calls to the job site to make sure drainage is being installed correctly, a check-in with an architect on the east coast, and we are done!

Well, a somewhat productive telecommuting day with the dogs, they are a little bossy and demanding but we made it through the day without getting fired. Work hard, play hard, play hard, pay hard. That's our motto!

NewfandHound would like to celebrate and honor all the soldiers who are serving and who have served for our country, K-9 soldiers included! Please take a few moments with us to thank all the men, women, and dogs who's bravery keeps our freedom alive and who's courage and valor freed others.

We recently took a trip to Washington D.C. which was more poignant and personal especially with Memorial Day around the corner. Walking the mall early in the morning gave me a chance to reflect and see the memorials in a private way, letting all the history and stories sink deep inside. The one memorial that humbled me the most was the National World War II Memorial. My dad was a Sargent Major in WWII where he received a bronze star in 1945 for ground operations. I remember the stories that he told of concentration camp prisoners not knowing what to do when the were freed, him eating raw potatoes and hiding in the bins, 16 year old boys who managed to sign up only to be killed their first day in battle. That bothered him the most I think, maybe because he was only 19 when he signed up. Today I found my dad's name in the website's registry and I'm proud to see it there. Thank you dad and paws up high from all of us here at NewfandHound!

I'm doing a little happy jig because I've finally started up a Pinterest account and I have to say that it is very addictive, but very fun at the same time. There are so many amazing ideas, pictures, stories, recipes, tutorials, and products that you can spend hours (literally, believe me) browsing and pinning.

Holiday Road Trip - About That Snow...

 

I forgot! I completely forgot how cold it can be in the Northwest in the winter and the continuous site of snow on a lonely two lane highway in the middle of nowhere did not ring "winter wonderland" as we drove. But, I figured if anything happened Foyle would be warm enough for everyone to snuggle against. Luckily, we made it without incident to the car or the dogs!

I thought I had designed the Taj Mahal of van accomodations for the four of them but apparently the space between the two front seats was the most desireable because that's where the hounds spent a majority of their travel time. Suddenly a pet booster seat didn't seem so ridiculous to us. Boredom set in the second day and Hazel challenged Ray to a stare down for hours, I think Hazel won because she is still rubbing it in a bit.

Now they are making themselves at home at Grandma's house but somehow haven't yet realized that we are on vacation. Do they really need to get up at 5:30 to eat this week? The only advantage of getting up that early is to watch the snow fall, actually being able to finish a full cup of hot coffee, and having all your dogs snoring away at your feet. It's the little moments.
