Dare to Be Square- Dachshund Quilt

One of the main reasons I bougnt the book Dare To Be Square Quilting was because of the I'm a Wiener! baby quilt design and the easy to understand instructions in the first few chapters. I really love the idea of making this quilt for upcoming baby showers, but Tell Tale Threads has outdone us by combining two of the patterns into one larger quilt as a "thank-you" for a friend. Can I be your friend too??

Not only is the entire quilt surrounded by smaller dachshunds, but if you look closely the fabric used in the squares has images of dachshunds in it also! Very cute and a great way to use up a stash of fun prints you've been saving!

Here's a photo from Lucysquilts with the original size of the pattern if you are looking for a bit smaller blanket. Really wonderful craftsmanship that I doubt I can match, but so fun to look at!

It just keeps getting better too, take a look at this quilt from Reggieana on Flickr. This color scheme has to be my favorite so far.

ePaper Cut- Paper Craft Dog Breeds

Now here's one paper cut that you may not mind getting! I can't imagine the amount of patience and x-acto knife blades it must take to create a piece of artwork like this original hand cut Newfoundland by Becky Crane. The detail is incredible and she captures the personality and essense that each breed has to offer in her artwork. The best part is that she has pages and pages of different breeds to chose from so I'm sure you can find your own breed, but if not just email her!

Doodlebug Quilts- Wall Hangings

Now here's something I haven't seen on Etsy yet! A wonderfull mini Newfoundland quilt handcrafted by Barb from Doodlebug Quilts out in Maryland. Look closely at the stitching because you can see dog bones and even a "fetch" or two throughout the pattern. Now this would be fun to have as a raffle prize at the specialty in October!

Rose City Totes- Hand Crafted Dog Beds in Portland

I was so excited to go to the show this past weekend to see if one of the new vendors from Portland was going to be there again selling these funky, durable dog beds, but much to my disappointment they were not. I was lucky that I actually did get a chance to buy dog beds from Rose City Totes when I did because these are some of the coolest beds that I've found lately. They are incredibly durable, water resistant, and come in any crate size that you may need. The fabrics are so fun, not your typical boring drab print, that it was hard to chose between them.

The hounds really liked them! I bought one for Foyle's crate also and I like the size so much that I think they would make great cushions for the outdoor furnitre also. I was so sad to see that they didn't come back down, but hopefully I can talk them into coming down for the Woofstock show in June!

So I have had a dilema lately on how to incorporate a 48"x30" dog crate in my house. It's like hiding the titanic in your back yard, no matter where you put the crate it will take over the entire room. There's just no hiding this thing! One friend made the perfect comment last month while she was at my house, "isn't it funny how crates suddenly become furniture in your house!" But Bow Wow Beds out in Kentucky may have a partial solution with this waterproof Crate Cover that comes in 30 different colors. I'm sure I could find something to make this condo blend into the room a little bit better. Foyle can even have his name stenciled on the front so the hounds won't forget who it really belongs to!

This week is just full of new artwork because I came across Raw Art Letterpress today created by Colette in Mt. Shasta, California. Colette created a contest on her Facebook page called "Do my job for me and win a prize" where all you have to do is send her a saying in 30 letters or less and she'll chose a winner. Two of my favorite suggestions were "Through adversity to the stars" and "Like and octopus in a garage." Or you can pick from a plethora of sayings on her Etsy site like the one above. Each letter is hand cut and individually printed so you really do get a one of a kind print! My home "gallery" is expanding quickly!

Kalyxcraftopia- Dachshunds for Tsunami Relief

I am so excited to start shopping for new artwork for the house so every night now I browse through Etsy to see what I can find for around $20.00 Today I came across this Dachshund and Bunny linocut print of Baxter and his bunny friend. This edition, created by Kalyxcraftopia in North Carolina, was created especially for the Japanese tsunami victims and $5 of each sale will be donated to the American Red Cross.

But wait! While looking through her shop I also found this adorable, and completely original Message in a Doxie sculpture where you can hide a personalized message or make your own! I can't decide which one I want more, they would both look good in my room. Ok, I'll get both!

Make This or Buy That - Collapsible Dog Bowl

It is inevitable that you never seem to have a dog bowl when you are out on a walk or just window shopping so here are two ideas to fix that dilemma. The first comes from our old craft diva Martha Stewart who even did a video with Kate Walsh to show you how to make the bowl. Nice idea if you are having a little pooch party and need to make a few favors! The second is the Tin Cloth Dog Bowl from Filson, a great outdoor company started in 1897. This bowl, which is water repellent, has had great reviews stating how easy it is to fold up and put in your pocket, or keep it in your car for those short rides. I like the unpretentious design and looks like it will even hold enough water for a Newfoundland!

These cute clean up bags from Day Dog Designs remind me of a lively, water-loving, bouncy little "bunny" by the name of Jagger that Foyle just loves playing with. Can't you see her mom sporting a pouch like the Bunny on a boat above during water training?

Or how about this Bunny and her Polka-Dot Rain Boots? Now this is definitely Jagger! The best part is that 10% of proceeds from any purchase go towards Arizona Cavalier Rescue.
