Continuing on the planting theme for the new porch I'd love to create a few lush hanging baskets but with the wind and lack of sun in the afternoon my plant choices are going to be slightly limited. I do like the idea of adding in a small evergreen to keep the structure during the winter months like in the third picture, and the succulents in the second pictured above. More research is needed though to get the perfect potting mix and Fine Gardening has an excellent section on all types of soil mixes depending on your planting method.
Hello! You were kind enough to leave a comment on Nanook and Pooka's blog - I'm here to answer your question. Yes, I have a secret.
There is ONE solution to the "keep the house clean with giant hairy dogs" issue: a high-velocity pro-grade dog blow dryer. I use the Metro Air Force Master Blaster. I've heard great things about the K9III as well though. If you do not have one of these, you really, really need one. I do not know how I lived without it.
I use it on the dogs at LEAST once a day. It gets water out of their coat, it gets dead fur out of their coat, it gets dander out of their coat, it gets leaves and bits of mulch, and sand from the beach...it is AWESOME.
The initial cost is a little bit of a sticker shock, but it is so worth it.
Best,
Nessa (Nanook and Pooka's mum)
